1974: Mary Jayne Jones abducted and shot
Bubbly, long-haired Mary Jayne Jones used to live in North Carolina, but she’d come to Iowa to be with her pregnant sister—and loved it so much that she ended up staying after the baby was born.
She had a roommate, a boyfriend who gave her a ring for Valentine’s Day (not an engagement ring, but she had her hopes), and a job at a drive-in restaurant in Ottumwa. Jones was only 17.
