1986: Denise Pflum looks for missing purse; never comes home

After breaking up with her boyfriend, 18-year-old Denise Pflum’s social life bloomed. Her mother noticed the change in her: she saw her friends more often, began dating again, and went to parties.

She was at the top of her high school class in Connersville, Indiana, and had plans to attend Ohio’s Miami University in the fall to study microbiology.
